HOW YOU CAN HELP

We depend on a wide range of supporters and partners. You can help by giving us your time, by donating or by fundraising for us.

VOLUNTEERING

If you are a journalist with some free time to research and write stories for the magazine or the website, please contact editor@thepavement.org.uk. (For other opportunities to volunteer with homelessness organisations such as soup runs, please approach organisations listed on our Services pages or your local volunteer centre – the NCVO has good links.)

“The readers are at the very heart of what the Pavement strives to do, be it providing information on essential, life-saving services, or providing some light relief to those whose lives are too often a struggle. I was fortunate to work with some dedicated and inspiring colleagues, and had my eyes opened to a world too often under-reported. I believe it is through The Pavement's efforts that some homeless issues have reached the national media and know that it is only with the continued support and generosity of volunteers and contributors that it can continue its excellent work.”

Rebecca Wearn, BBC news reporter

“Not only did my time with the Pavement give me the real-world experience that I needed to launch my career in media and publishing, but it opened my eyes to an often misunderstood and ignored community. This unique opportunity for professional and personal growth – and the chance to learn from compassionate, quirky, creative and intelligent colleagues – was truly priceless.”

Naomi Osinnowo editor at GTI Media

“I’m proud that I was able to make a small contribution to the Pavement. The publication provides homeless people with an invaluable resource in finding out about issues that can be of importance to them. I know that the skills I learned in copy writing and meeting deadlines have helped in finding a job in communications.”

DONATING

We rely on individual and company donations to maintain our independence. We guarantee to stretch your money by using a volunteer-based operation and with only a very small percentage of the money raised going on administration. If you make a regular donation of £10 a month, you will automatically become a ‘Friend of the Pavement’.

CREDIT/DEBIT CARD DONATIONS

To make a donation online via your credit or debit card, please click the button below. (Just Giving has been operating since 2000, is registered with the Charity Commission and maintains high levels of security for online giving.) Simply choose between "make a monthly donation” and “make a one-off donation” and follow the steps.

DONATE ONLINE NOW

Or you can donate directly through our bank account (sort code: 30 98 71, account number: 03324105). You can set up a standing order by downloading our form here.

CHEQUE DONATIONS

If you would prefer to donate by cheque, please made your cheque out to ‘the Pavement’, write your name and address on the back, and send it to the Pavement, PO Box 66737, London NW5 9FW. If you would like an acknowledgement, mention this on the back of your cheque. (As we are a small and over-stretched team, we normally do not send out receipts, but please don't think we are not sincerely grateful for your gift.)

If you are a UK taxpayer, please complete our Gift Aid declaration form and return it with your cheque so we can reclaim the tax and make your donation go even further.

FUNDRAISING FOR US

Sponsored treks, runs, swims, bike rides and bake sale are fun ways to support our work with homeless people. There are lots of exciting ways you can get involved! We’ll announce fundraising events on our website, and on Facebook and Twitter. If you have ideas or would like help to organise your own event, we’d love to hear from you – email william@thepavement.org.uk

COMPANIES

We greatly appreciate the support we get from a number of companies. You and your company can join us in helping the Pavement transform the lives of homeless and vulnerable people.

Give As You Earn Staff can be encouraged to support the Pavement through payroll giving, whereby contributions are deducted before tax. For a basic-rate taxpayer, every pound given only costs you 80p – and it’s even less for higher-rate taxpayers. (For more information on the benefits of Give As You Earn, please read the Charities Aid Foundation’s information.)

Charity of the Year Nominate the Pavement to receive proceeds from corporate and employee events and benefits. We will work with you to help you convince your colleagues of the importance of our work.

Events Organise work fundraising events such as raffles, cake sales, auctions and sponsored team-building events.

Matched Giving Scheme Match your employees donations made and sponsorship totals raised through fundraising events. As the Charities Aid Foundation says, “Giving to charity as part of a company initiative instils a great sense of common purpose and pride amongst your employees – and you can reinforce that sense of partnership by boosting the value of their donations.”

To discuss how your company could support our work, please email william@thepavement.org.uk
