San Francisco to remove homelessness camps

October 05 2016
Just under 80 of them...
San Francisco’s newly created Department of Homelessness & Supportive Housing is about to start removing every single homelessness camp across the city. There are currently just under 80 homelessness encampments known to the San Francisco authorities, and newly-appointed “homeless czar” Jeff Kositsky has vowed to shut them down, saying “We have put out the word on the street: This is not a place to camp.” However, the San Francisco Police Department have spoken out against the new plans. Captain John Jaimerena pointed out that being homeless is not illegal in San Francisco , whilst Lieutenant Mike Nevin told hoodline.com, “I would not feel comfortable directing an officer to take someone’s personal property.”
