Charities meet in merger

St Mungo’s and Broadway will merge from April

Two large homelessness charities, St Mungo’s and Broadway, are to merge from April 2014, it has emerged.

The new charity will initially be called called St Mungo’s Broadway, with Paul Doe stepping up to chair it. Mr Doe is currently the chair of St Mungos. Sir Leigh Lewis, the current chair of Broadway, will become the vice-chair.

Howard Sinclair, Broadway’s current Chief Executive, will take on the CEO role of St Mungo’s Broadway formally in April.

Last month St Mungos pulled out of its contract to deliver hostel accommodation in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. The charity had been running the homeless shelter since 2011 and had faced staff strikes over pay and conditions in December.
