Appeal from Scottish Churches Housing Action

The current economic crisis is particularly harsh for Scotland‘s 93,000 homeless people, says SCHA chair Edinburgh-based Scottish Churches Housing Action has established 26 projects across the country since it was set up 14 years ago. Its chairman, the Rev Leslie Morrison, of Duke Street United Reformed Church in Leith, said everyone was affected by the current economic crisis but the situation was particularly harsh for Scotland's 93,000 homeless people. He said: "No matter how hard this unsettling time is for us, it is almost impossible to imagine how hard it is for those who are homeless or living in extreme poverty." Among the projects SCHA has established is Fresh Start, which provides new tenants who have been homeless with essential items to set up and decorate their home, and also befriends them.
